Custom Trailer Builds: What to Expect
Share
A lot of people come to us because they can't find what they need off the shelf. Either the size isn't right, the configuration doesn't work for how they use it, or they just want something built properly rather than buying something that's going to need replacing in a few years.
Here's how a custom build works with us.
Start with the conversation
The first step is figuring out what you actually need. That sounds simple, but it's worth spending some time on. What are you carrying? How heavy? How often? Do you need to drive something onto it or load from the side? Is this going near salt water?
Come in, have a chat, and we'll work through it.
We'll put together a spec and a quote
Once we know what you need, we'll put together a specification and a quote. You'll know exactly what you're getting and what it costs before we start.
Design
Once you've accepted the quote and paid your deposit, we move into design. We take the brief from our initial conversation and turn it into a proper drawing: dimensions, layout, axle placement, load points, everything you need to actually see what you're getting before we cut a single piece of steel.
If something doesn't look right at this stage, it's easy to change. We'll share the design with you and make sure you're happy before we go any further.
Build time
Custom builds take time. How long depends on complexity and our current workload. We'll give you a realistic timeframe upfront. We'd rather set an honest expectation than promise something we can't deliver.
During the build, if anything comes up that affects the spec or the cost, we'll talk to you first.
Compliance
All our trailers are built to NZ standards and can be registered. We can walk you through what's needed for your specific build.
Pick it up
When it's ready, we'll go through everything with you: how it works, what to check, how to maintain it. We're also here after the sale if you ever need a service or repair.
If you've got a job in mind and you're not sure if a custom build is the right option, just get in touch.
